@LATechWBB Hosts North Texas in Important West Division Series

RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech will play its sixth straight Conference USA weekend series Friday and Saturday when the Lady Techsters host West Division foe North Texas.

North Texas will play its first games in three weeks.

Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday at the Thomas Assembly Center.

While the Lady Techsters have been avoiding any Covid19 speedbumps during league play, the Mean Green have seen their last two series against Old Dominion and Rice postponed due to issues within the Monarch and Owls programs.

North Texas enters the weekend series ranked as one of the top offensive teams in Conference USA in numerous statistical categories.

"They have not played the last two weekends," said Tech head coach Brooke Stoehr. "They are very good. This year, they have been very efficient offensively.  We have to do a great job defensively."

North Texas is led by New Mexico transfer Quincy Noble, who ranks fourth in the league in scoring at 18.4 points per game. Noble is shooting the basketball at a high clip, hitting 44 percent (35-80) of her three-pointers on the season.

As impressive as Noble has been this year, she isn't the lone wolf offensively. N'Yah Boyd (13.8 ppg), Madi Townley (9.2 ppg, 8.0 rpg) and Jazion Jackson (8.3 ppg, 10-23 three-pointers) are also contributing heavily to the North Texas offense.

"Quincy Noble is a great scorer, averaging 18 points a game," said Stoehr. "We know we are going to have our hands full with her. I think N'Yah Boyd and Jazion Jackson on the perimeter are really good in the paint, getting to the rim, setting teammates up, creating defensive rotations."

"Madison Townley at the four has a high motor and is really, really active.  We have to do a great job of boxing her out and being aware of where she is.  We have to attack offensively and take care of the basketball."

The Lady Techsters look to get back into the win column not only on the season but also in this series. Tech is coming off a 57-44 loss at Southern Miss last Saturday and has dropped three straight to North Texas in the series.

"We are excited about the opportunity to play at home this week," said Stoehr. "It is February and we have to start lining ourselves up to be playing our best basketball. I thought you saw our group do that last year after some tough losses. We were able to regroup, and continued to get better. We have not played our best basketball yet and that gives us hope of what we are capable of once we do. I would like to start seeing us trend that way. I thought we did that at times last week, especially on Thursday."

The Lady Techsters boast one of the top defensive units in C-USA, holding nine of their 10 opponents to 61 points or less through the first part of the league slate.
