@LATechSB Drops Saturday Pair

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Louisiana Tech dropped a pair of Saturday games falling 7-5 to Montana and 7-2 to Texas A&M at Davis Diamond in College Station.

"We left too many on base today," said Tech Interim Head Coach Bianca Duran. "We had chances in both games. I do think we are continuing to grow and learn. I was happy with their fight and their heart all weekend. They competed. We just have to be better at avoiding the big innings late or finding a way to drive in the runs late in games."

Tech was scheduled to face Grambling State Tuesday but the game will be rescheduled due to contract tracing issues within the Tigers softball program. The Lady Techsters will head to Memphis this weekend to play a three-game set against the Tigers.

Game 1: Montana 7, LA Tech 5

A four-run fourth inning by Montana was the difference as the Lady Techsters dropped a 7-5 decision just one day after defeating the Grizzlies in 13 innings.

For the second straight day, Tech fell behind 2-0 early and for the second straight game the Lady Techsters came back to tie it up at 2-2. However, this time, the Grizzlies had a response.

Tech plated its first run in the top of the second inning when Madie Green scored on a throwing error by the Montana third baseman on an infield single by Zoe Hicks. The Lady Techsters tied the game in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by KB Briley, scoring Olivia Ellingson.

Maygen McGrath had the big hit for Montana in the bottom of the fourth inning, a three-run home run to left field with two outs, giving the Grizzlies a 5-2 advantage. Montana added a fourth run in the frame to increase its lead to 6-2.

Tech answered in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Kylie Neel and a two-run single by Kara Goff, closing the deficit to 6-5. Montana added a two-out run in its half of the sixth.

Any chance of a Techster rally was doused as Tech went down in order in the top of the seventh inning.

Audrey Pickett (0-5) took the loss, allowing five runs – only one earned – on six hits and four walks while striking out three in 4.0 innings of action. Emma Hutchinson got the start, working 2.0 innings and allowing two runs on four hits and three walks.

Game 2: Texas A&M 7, LA Tech 2

Tanjala Smith hit a two-run home run in the top of the second inning to tie the game at 2-2, but the Lady Techsters managed just one more hit the rest of the game in the loss to the Aggies.

Smith's home run scored Kylie Neel who had reached via an error to start the inning.

Despite managing  only two hits, Tech stranded nine base runners as the Lady Techsters drew six walks and added one hit by pitch on the afternoon.

The game remained tied 2-2 until the bottom of the fifth inning when Texas A&M plated one run to take the lead. The Aggies added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth, all coming with two outs.

Bre Hernandez (2-4) took the loss, allowing seven runs on 11 hits and two walks in 5.2 innings of action. Kara Goff worked the final out in the sixth.

In addition to Smith's home run, Caroline Easom added a single.
