LAFAYETTE, La. – Despite turning a season-high four double plays, Louisiana Tech fell 7-0 to No. 14 ranked UL-Lafayette Tuesday afternoon at Lamson Park.
The Ragin Cajuns (35-7) plate two runs in the first and then added five runs – all unearned and coming with two outs – in the second to build the early 7-0 advantage.
Tech pitcher Bre Hernadez came on in relief and worked the final 4.1 innings in the circle, holding UL-Lafayette to two hits and no runs.
Audrey Pickett (4-10) got the start, allowing seven runs – only two earned – on six hits and two walks before giving way to Hernandez in the bottom of the second inning.
The Lady Techsters managed just two base runners in the game against the combination of Kandra Lamb, Summer Ellyson and Vanessa Foreman. The trio combined for eight strikeouts while allowing only one hit and issuing zero walks.
Sophomore
Kylie Neel – who transferred from UL-Lafayette in the offseason – recorded a single for the only hit of the game for Tech.
Defensively, Neel started the first double play of the game, making a diving catch in right field in the bottom of the first before making the relay throw to
Caroline Easom who gunned down a Ragin Cajuns runner at home to end the frame.
Tech turned double plays in the first, second, fourth and sixth innings.
