RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech dropped a pair of Conference USA home games Friday, falling 4-1 and 5-4 in 10 innings to North Texas at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field.
Tech (22-27, 10-8 C-USA) and North Texas (35-10, 16-2) will wrap up the series Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
Game 1: North Texas 4, LA Tech 1
Hope Trautwein struck out 16 and was one pitch away from a no-hitter in leading North Texas to a 4-1 win over Louisiana Tech in the first game of the doubleheader.
North Texas scored four unearned runs in the top of the fourth inning against Tech and Trautwein coasted to her 12
th victory of the season in the circle.
Tech broke up the no-hitter with two outs in the bottom of the 7
th inning when
Lindsay Edwards doubled off the top of the left field wall.
Caroline Easom then followed with an RBI single to centerfield to break up the shutout.
Bre Hernandez (9-10) took the loss, allowing four unearned runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 5.0 innings.
Kara Goff worked the final 2.0 innings, allowing just two hits.
Game 2: North Texas 5, LA Tech 4 (10 innings)
LA Tech rallied from a three-run deficit but a costly error in the top of the 10
th innings ultimately cost the Lady Techsters in the 10 innings loss.
With the game tied at 4-4 in the top of the 10
th, North Texas third baseman Tayla Evans hit a fly ball to shallow right field that fell to the ground when Easom and
Kylie Neel collided.
Two outs later, Evans scored on a single to left field, giving the Mean Green the 5-4 lead.
Tech was set down in order in the bottom of the 10
th to seal the loss.
North Texas held a 4-1 lead when Tech plated a run in the bottom of the fifth on
Madie Green's two-out single to centerfield, scoring
Jordyn Manning.
Tech tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Easom singled down the left field line to plate
Brooke Diaz and then Easom scored the tying run on a wild pitch.
With the game tied 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Tech loaded the bases with just one out. However, with the winning run on third, a strikeout and a fly out ended the threat.
