RUSTON, La. – For the second straight week, a Louisiana Tech Bulldog has been named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Defensive Player of the Week.
After senior linebacker
Trey Baldwin earned the distinction last week, sophomore defensive back
BeeJay Williamson took home the honor on Monday.
Williamson notched two interceptions which he returned for 62 total yards in the 45-42 victory over Southeastern on Saturday. He was the first Bulldog to record two interceptions in a game since he accomplished the feat against UAB on Oct. 31, 2020.
The native of Dallas, Texas, scored the first points of Saturday's game in his 45-yard pick six midway through the first quarter. Williamson became the seventh Bulldog in the last 23 games to register a pick six. The pick marked the 15th pick six for LA Tech since 2017, which leads the country.
Williamson tied for third on the team with six total tackles against Southeastern, including five solo stops. He also forced two fumbles in the Tech victory.
Tech continues its homestand this week as the Bulldogs host the SMU Mustangs on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 2:30 p.m. CT.
