RUSTON, (Nov. 15, 2022) – Louisiana Tech head coach
Sonny Cumbie and select players spoke with the media on Tuesday in advance of Tech's matchup at Charlotte on Saturday.
Sonny Cumbie
Opening Statement…
"I am sure there will be a lot of emotions in their guys, coaches and their players at Charlotte. It will be a tough team to play and defeat. We have to make sure that we take care of our business from a preparation standpoint today."
On playing recent road perfromance…
"I think it is our mental toughness. It starts with our coaches and me. Or lack of mental toughness as far as going on the road and getting ourselves prepared to play a football game. Whether there is a ton of people there or no people there we are playing our game and we have to go out and do our best. A lack of focus ends up being a lack of execution in little areas whether it is a dropped pass which has nothing to do with ability but concentration and mental focus. A false start, a snap point, all of those things are correctable and a lack of focus."
On
Griffin Hebert and
Tre Harris…
"The same way I always try to do it which is by presenting them the truth and letting them know and letting us know. We are not a mentally tough football team and how do we become one. We find it as a team and so far we have not lived up to it and I haven't allowed it to happen. We are going out there and making sure we practice with a lot of energy and whenever we travel and when we go through our walkthroughs on Saturday we better have a focus like we have never had before. We are not just going to do it this week but every week. We have to bottle that up and carry it with us for when we go on the road next year."
On Quarterback situation…
"
Landry Lyddy will be the starter. Parker has been battling and he will continue to try to throw the football. He has a broke middle finger so I can't imagine the pain he has just throwing the football since it is the last finger besides your index finger that leaves the ball. The pain that he has to feel throwing the ball is a lot but he is still trying to do it. We will see how he feels later in the week but Landry will start and
Jack Turner will back him up."
