RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech Kicker
Jacob Barnes has been named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Special Teams Player of the Week as a result of his efforts during Saturday's 40-24 win over Middle Tennessee.
Barnes tied his career-high with four made field goals during the win, converting on kicks of 40, 36, 32 and 36 yards. Barnes also made all four extra point attempts to account for 16 of the Bulldogs' 40 points. Barnes' four field goals are the sixth-most by an FBS kicker in a single game this season. He also became just the fifth kicker in program history to have multiple games with four made field goals.
The Baton Rouge product ranks 24th among the FBS active career leaders in field goal percentage (80.9) and 24th in points per game (6.8). Barnes is 13-17 (76.5%) on field goal attempts this season. He has been nearly perfect in PATs in his three seasons with the Bulldogs, going 100-101.
Barnes is the second Bulldog to be named Player of the Week by the LSWA, joining Quarterback
Parker McNeil who garnered the honor on Oct. 10.
Tech is back on the road this week as the Bulldogs travel to UTSA to take on the first-place Roadrunners on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 2:30 p.m. CT.
