Louisiana Tech is coming of two historic performances from
Anna Larr Roberson and
Keiunna Walker in a win over Rice at home Thursday (90-80) in double overtime fashion.
Roberson poured in 44 points on 20-28 shooting to paired with nine rebounds. Her 44 points in the fifth highest single game scoring performance in Lady Techsters' history and is the 13
th player to eclipse 40 points. Her 20 made field goals is tied for the most ever made in a single game with Belinda Jones who did it back in 1975.
Roberson ranks No. 2 in rebounds (8.8 rpg) in C-USA and is averaging 14.8 ppg and has now scored in double figures 19 straight games.
Walker, coming off her fourth LSWA Player of the Week honor of the season for a career-high mark at UTEP, posted just the fourth triple-double in program history with 27 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists. The 15 rebounds and 10 assists are both career-highs for Walker.
She joins Angela Turner, Shantel Hardison, and Tasha Williams as the only Techsters to ever complete such a stat line. Williams was the last back in 2006.
Walker has now scored in double figures in 27 straight games and is the only player in conference USA to do so in every game this season. Her 18.6 ppg is good for No.3 in C-USA and she now sits at No. 31 on the Lady Techsters all-time scoring with 1,261 career points. She most recently passed Erica Smith-Taylor and Tasha Williams in her triple-double effort.
Walker and Roberson's joint performance was the first time in the last 20 years in the NCAA where teammates have gone for 40-point night and a 20-point triple-double during the same game.
The Lady Techsters continue to one of the best defensive teams in Conference USA this season ranking in No. 5 in scoring defense (59.5 ppg), No. 3 in turnovers forced (19.3 tfpg) and No. 6 steals (8.6 spg).
The Techsters are averaging 66.9 ppg this season on 42.0 percent shooting from the field and rank as the No. 1 team in conference USA in free-throw percentage (.762).
Tech comes into the Saturday afternoon matchup currently a half-game back of North Texas and Southern Miss in the C-USA West division standings.
ABOUT NORTH TEXAS (14-10, 8-6 C-USA)
North Texas enters Ruston on a six-game winning streak and currently sits tied for first in C-USA's West Division standings with Southern Miss.
North Texas and Southern Miss were scheduled to play this past Thursday but the game was canceled and ruled a no-contest.
UNT now sits at 14-10 on the year and 8-6 in conference play having just completed series sweeps over UAB and Rice.
North Texas is one of the top scoring and rebounding teams in conference USA ranking No. 4 in points per game (67.6), No. 5 in team field-goal percentage (.412) and averaging 39.1 rebounds per game which places them No. 4 in C-USA.
The Mean Green are giving up 62.9 points per game on 39.9 percent shooting to opponents on the year.
North Texas is led by a three-headed double-digit scoring tandem in redshirt junior Quincy Noble (14.8 ppg), grad student Aly Gamez (10.2 ppg), and junior Jazion Jackson (10.0 ppg).
THE SERIES
Louisiana Tech and North Texas will meet for the 19th time in women's basketball dating back to the 1989-90 season. LA Tech holds a 14-4 series lead.
Tech won the first 12 meetings between the two programs but North Texas has won four of the last five before Tech took the earlier season matchup in Denton (72-60). Tech holds a 6-2 series lead in games played in Ruston.
Last season the Techsters and Mean Green split the season series played inside the Thomas Assembly Center.
