Preview: Lady Techsters vs Florida International

Lady Techsters have now won four of their last five games.

RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech women's basketball team will play host to Florida International inside the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston, La. at 2:00 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 5. The game can be seen on ESPN+ and heard on 97.7 FM.

ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (12-8, 4-5 C-USA)
Louisiana Tech has now won four of their last five games after taking care of Florida Atlantic Thursday night in Ruston (64-49). Tech led by as many as 26 on the night shooting over 50 percent from the field for the second straight game. 
 
Tech also now has a combined 88 points in the paint their last two conference games. 
 
Keiunna Walker scored a game-high 19 in the win and has now scored in double figures in 21 straight games averaging 17.4 ppg. Walker, who now has a career point total of 1,126, is only two points away from leaping No. 37 Shantel Hardison and nine points from No. 36 Alisa Burras on the all-time career points list for Louisiana Tech. 
 
Anna Larr Roberson, who is averaging 13.2 ppg and 9.1 rpg game this season, has now scored in double figures in 13 straight games after pouring in 16 on Thursday night. 
 
Roberson is currently leading conference USA in free throw percentage (.855), ranks No. 2 in rebounding and No. 3 in field goal percentage (.513).
 
Silvia Nativi is coming off not one, but two career highs Thursday night against the Owls with 11 rebounds and seven assists while also playing a career best 38 minutes. 
 
Tech is now 7-1 at home this season and with three more home games within the next week the Lady Techsters are looking to make their move in the C-USA West division standings. Tech sits at 4-5 in conference play behind UTEP (5-5), Southern Miss (5-4) and UAB (5-2). 
 
The Lady Techsters continue to be one of the top defensive teams in conference USA ranking No. 3 in scoring defense (58.1 ppg), No. 5 in blocked shots (3.5 bpg), and tied for No. 5 in turnovers forced (18.7 tfpg). 
 
With the performance Thursday versus FAU, Tech has now held opponents under 50 points four times this season and is 10-1 when holding teams to under 60. 
 
The Techsters are averaging 65.9 ppg this season on 41.5 percent shooting and rank as the No. 1 team in conference USA in free-throw percentage (.756). 

ABOUT FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL (11-8, 3-5 C-USA)
Florida International comes into Ruston after winning two of their last three over UTSA and UTEP at home but dropped a close one Thursday night at Southern Miss (65-64). 
 
FIU is led by a pair of double-digit scoring grad students in Kyla Nelson (12.5 ppg) and Ariel Colon (12.0 ppg). 
 
FIU also ranks well on the defensive side of the ball only allowing 59.2 points per game to opponents while ranking in the top five in C-USA in team three-point percentage (.310) and three-point field goals made (7.1 pg). 
 
FIU is averaging 65.3 points per game on 39.6 percent shooting as a team.
 
THE SERIES
Louisiana Tech and Florida International will meet for the 16th time in women's basketball with Tech holding a 14-1 advantage.

The series dates back to the 1998-99 season with Tech having won the first 11 meetings before FIU's lone series win in 2017-18.

The Techsters and Owls last met in 2019-20 with Tech taking the contest 62-52 in Ruston. Tech has now won three straight and is undefeated in games played in Ruston versus FIU (7-0). 

NATIONAL GIRLS AND WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY/#PLAY4KAY
Saturday's game will also celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) which is powered by the Women's Sports Foundation. 
 
In addition, in partnership with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, Louisiana Tech will also participate in the annual #Play4Kay Pink Out Game.
 
All girls and women will receive free admission into the game and there will be a t-shirt giveaway for students and fans. 
 
Everyone is encouraged in joining the Techsters in wearing pink.
