RUSTON, La. –
Josh Taylor has been waiting for an offensive explosion.
The first year LA Tech head coach experienced it Tuesday night.
Brooke Diaz hit two home runs and
Amanda Gonzalez added a third as the Lady Techsters run-ruled ULM 9-0 in 5 innings Tuesday night at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field.
Tech plated four runs in the first, two in the second and three more in the third in coasting to their 23
rd win of the season – one more than the entire 2021 campaign. Tech has 18 games remaining.
"It was good to see us swing the bats so well tonight," said Taylor. "Amanda looks really good at the plate right now. And Brooke had some real quality at bats and really put the game out of reach for us. I was proud of how we kept adding on runs even after we had the early lead."
Gonzalez gave Tech (23-15) a 2-0 lead just two batters into the bottom of the first with a two-run shot to right center, scoring
Sierra Sacco who led the bottom of the first inning off with a triple. It was Gonzalez's fifth home run of the season. The Tech shortstop was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBI on the night.
The scoring wasn't done in the bottom of the first as
Katelin Cooper lined a two-run double to right centerfield with two outs, plating
Caroline Easom and
Madie Green who both reached on errors.
In the bottom of the second inning, Tech had more fireworks. Gonzalez singled and one batter later,
Brooke Diaz lined a full-count pitch over the left centerfield wall for a two-run shot. It was Diaz's fifth of the year, but not her last of the game.
Leading 6-0 in the bottom of the third inning, Sacco and Gonzalez both walked and one batter later, Diaz lifted a pitch high and deep to centerfield that just got over the fence for a three-run bomb.
Audrey Pickett (16-4) picked up her 16
th win of the season, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out four in 5.0 innings of action.
Tech hosts Stephen F. Austin Thursday at 6 p.m.
