Preview: LA Tech at Abilene Christian

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech returns to the court for the final time in 2023 when they travel to Abilene, Texas, to take on Abilene Christian at 1 p.m. CT inside the Moody Coliseum. The game will be live on ESPN+ and KNBB 97.7 FM/LA Tech Athletics app.

ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (5-9)
Louisiana Tech picked up their third consecutive win in dominating fashion against South Alabama, 68-34, their last time out.

The Lady Techsters started the game with just 11 points in the first quarter but turned up the defensive pressure. Tech scored 28 points off of 24 Jaguars' turnovers.

Robyn Lee led the way with a game-high 16 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and four assists. Lee is third on the team with 9.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.

Salma Bates is one of the top players in the league on both sides of the ball. She leads the league and is No. 51 nationally with 28 steals on the season. She is also second in CUSA and No. 68 nationally with 29 made threes.

Continuing to make her mark in the LA Tech record book, Anna Larr Roberson sits at No. 28 on the all-time scoring list with 1,408 points. She is just two behind Monica Maxwell at 1,410 and 18 points behind Jane Ellen Cook with 1,428.

ABOUT ABILENE CHRISTIAN (5-5)
Julie Goodenough is in her 12th season at the helm of Abilene Christian. She is 497-339 all-time, with stops at Hardin-Simmons, Oklahoma State, and Charleston Southern before ACU.

The Wildcats are coming off a 72-68 loss to Western Kentucky in which they held a 10-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Abilene Christian is one of the top offensive rebound teams in the country. The 14.4 per game, ranks 51st nationally. The Wildcats also rank 7th in three-point attempts per game (29) and three-pointers per game (9.8).

ACU has four players averaging double figures, led by Payton Hull at 16.8 points per game. The freshman has eight games in double-figures with three games of 25+. She had a season-high 34 against Navy and followed that with 31 against UT Arlington.

Bella Earle (13.1), Aspen Thornton (11.4), and Addison Martin (11.0) are the other Abilene Christian players in double figures.

Earle leads the team with 7.6 rebounds a game and had double-doubles against Navy (13 points, 11 rebounds) and UT Arlington (19 points, 10 rebounds).

This is the first meeting between the two programs.

Louisiana Tech is celebrating the 50th season of Lady Techster basketball. All former Lady Techster coaches, players, and staff are invited to the celebration held during the CUSA home opener against Sam Houston on Jan. 6, 2024.
