Preview: LA Tech at Arkansas State

RUSTON – The Lady Techsters finish off their road swing against Arkansas State on Saturday at noon inside First National Bank. The game will be live on ESPN+ and KNBB 97.7.

This will be the 44th meeting all-time between the two programs, the fourth most matchups against an opponent in program history.

ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (2-6)
The Lady Techsters are looking to get back into the win column after falling to Arkansas on Thursday night at Bud Walton Arena.

Robyn Lee led the way for Tech with 15 points and five rebounds. The junior finished with two assists, giving her five games with multiple assists this season.

Kate Thompson had back-to-back solid performances against Vanderbilt and Arkansas. She finished with six points and four rebounds in her first start since 2022.

Salma Bates scored in double figures for the seventh time this season, finishing with 11 points. For the season, Bates averages 11.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.

Senior forward Anna Larr Roberson broke a tie with Raquel Spurlock for No. 29 on the all-time scoring list. Roberson finished with six points and eight rebounds. She leads the team with 11.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.

The Lady Techsters are towards the top of Conference USA in four categories. LA Tech is No. 1 in assists per game at 13.8, No. 4 in assists to turnover ratio (0.80), No. 4 in steals per game at 9.6, and No. 4 in field goal percentage at 41.0 percent.

ABOUT ARKANSAS STATE (3-3)
Arkansas State comes into the matchup after a week off fowling a 62-57 loss to Kansas City. The Red Wolves have wins over Northern Illinois (75-62), Hendrix (95-15), and Arkansas–Pine Bluff (85-65).

Izzy Higginbottom is a preseason All-Sun Belt selection and leads the Red Wolves with 22.3 points per game. The junior guard has scored double figures in every game this season and has four games of 20 or more, including a season-high 31 in the win over NIU.

Lauryn Pendelton is the only other player averaging in double figures. The 2022 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year is averaging 11.5 ppg. She has four straight double figures, including a season-high of 17 against Hendrix.

Transfers Kendra Gillispie and Wynter Rogers lead Arkansas State on the boards. A Baylor transfer, Gillispie leads the way with 7.2 rebounds per game. She had 11 rebounds against Arkansas and Kansas City. Rogers averages 6.3 boards a game. The West Virginia transfer had 10 rebounds against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Arkansas State was picked to finish eighth in the Sun Belt Conference. The Red Wolves finished last season 13-19 overall but finished in the SBC quarterfinals.

THE SERIES
LA Tech holds a 40-3 record all-time against Arkansas State, winning the last three. Tech had a 29-game winning streak in the series from 1992-2011. The Lady Techsters are 20-2 in Jonesboro.

Louisiana Tech is celebrating the 50th season of Lady Techster basketball. All former Lady Techster coaches, players, and staff are invited to the celebration held during the CUSA home opener against Sam Houston on Jan. 6, 2024. A reception will be held on Friday, Jan. 5, and formal recognition will be during the game.
