Bulldogs Finish Ninth at Mossy Oak Collegiate

Niilo Maki-Petaja recorded his fifth top-20 finish of the season
RUSTON – Louisiana Tech closed out its 12th event of the regular season on Tuesday, finishing ninth at the Mossy Oak Collegiate on the Mossy Oak Golf Course.

On the most challenging day of the tournament, LA Tech was not able to put a scorecard in the red shooting 299 (+11) for round three to finish with a team score of 292-288-299=879 (+15).

Four Bulldogs shot 37 or better on the front nine, but big numbers crept up on the back in particular the last four holes. Even so, Niilo Maki-Petaja managed to record his fifth top-20 finish of the season, tying for 15th after shooting 73 (+1) for round three and three under for the tournament.

Will Patrick had the second-best round of the day for LA Tech, shooting 74 (+2) to help the senior tie for 35th at three over which was his second-best finish of the season.

Thomas Henson and Gray Kingrea both shot 76 (+4) as the two other counted scores for the Bulldogs. Henson tied for 62nd at nine over while Kingrea and Jake Plumb both tied for 67th at 11 over.

No. 2-ranked Auburn ran away with the tournament title, shooting 34 strokes better than the 2nd-place Ole Miss.Â

LA Tech will take part in the 2024 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship on April 22-25. The event will take place in Texarkana, Arkansas at the Texarkana Country Club.
