DALLAS, TEXAS- After dropping game one of Sunday's doubleheader, Louisiana Tech secured a victory in game two, picking up a series win. Louisiana Tech (29-12, 8-4 CUSA) dropped game one to No. 25 DBU (28-10, 7-5 CUSA) by a score of 8-3, but Tech turned around to earn a 6-1 victory over DBU in game two.
GAME ONE
No. 25 Dallas Baptist took full control of game one of Sunday's doubleheader against Louisiana Tech after holding the Bulldogs scoreless to the eighth inning. Tech batters struggled in the batter's box after striking out 14 times on Sunday. No. 25 DBU picked up runs in the third-sixth inning, leading them to a 6-0 lead. Eventually, Tech put two runs on the board after
Kasten Furr advanced to third on a single and an error by the right fielder, which allowed
Will Safford and
Grant Comeaux to score, making it a 6-2 game. Next, Furr scored on a wild pitch and cut DBU's lead to three. However, the Patriots scored two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, putting the game out of reach.
GAME TWO
Offensively, Tech got going early after a three-run inning in the top of the third.
Will Safford started the scoring run after his solo home run to right field, which was followed up by a
Dalton Davis RBI sacrifice flyout to right field that scored
Kasten Furr. Next,
Cole McConnell earned an RBI double when he placed a ball to right center, which forced
Adarius Myers to cross home plate. Later, McConnell followed up with another RBI single, which led Furr to score again, forcing Tech's lead to 4-0 in the top of the fifth inning. In that same inning,
Michael Ballard secured two RBI following his single to left side of the field, scoring McConnell and Davis, extending Tech's lead to 6-0. Tech pitcher
Turner Swistak (5-2) had a day on the mound, striking out nine batters, allowing six hits, and giving up no runs or walks in 6.0 innings of work on Sunday. Swistak's nine strikeouts were a season-high for him on the season. However, DBU secured a run on the board in the bottom of the ninth inning, ruining Tech's shutout but resulting in the 6-1 score.
