NATCHITOCHES, La. – Former Lady Techster All-American Vickie Johnson is part of the eight-member class set to be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame for the 2025 class.
A two-time Kodak All-American (1995 and 1996), Johnson helped re-establish Louisiana Tech's national prominence in the mid-90s after the Lady Techsters had suffered through two mediocre seasons in 1990 and 1991.
Johnson was a four-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection during her playing days and earned Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year honors in 1995 and 1996. The Lady Techsters posted a 116-17 record during her four years, including a trip to the national championship game in 1993-94. During her junior year, Johnson became only the second player since Pam Kelly to lead the team in scoring for three straight seasons.
The Coushatta, La., native remains in the Tech record books, ranking No. 7 in points (1,960), No. 10 in scoring average (15.0), and No. 6 in field goals made (793).
Johnson - whose jersey is retired – played 13 seasons in the WNBA and became the first person in league history to collect 4,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists in a career. She was added to the Liberty's Ring of Honor in 2011. Johnson won the WNBA's Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award in 2008, her last pro season.
Currently an assistant coach with the Atlanta Dream, Johnson began her coaching career as an assistant in San Antonio, now the Las Vegas Aces, in 2011. She was ultimately promoted to head coach in 2017 and helped the team transition to Las Vegas and claim their first WNBA title in 2020.
After leaving Las Vegas, Johnson served as head coach of the Dallas Wings for two seasons, leading the Wings to playoff berths in both 2021 and 2022. She has also served as an assistant coach and a court coach for the USA Women's National Team under head coach Dawn Staley in 2019 and Cheryl Reeve in 2022. Â
She was enshrined in the Louisiana Tech HOF in 2007.
The dates for the three-day celebration will be announced at a later time.
