Bulldogs fall to No. 13 Arkansas

RUSTON - The Louisiana Tech softball team fell 9-1 to No. 13 Arkansas in Game three of the Louisiana Tech Classic on a cold and rainy Friday night at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field.

The Bulldogs allowed their third fifth-run first inning of the season as the Razorbacks scored five unearned runs in the first frame to jump out to an early 5-0 lead. True freshman Ryleigh Shull made her first collegiate start in the Circle against the 13th ranked Hogs and was put in a tough position early after a fielding error allowed the second batter of the ball game to reach first base safely.

A double to left center scored Kailey Wyckoff who reached base on an error for the first run of the night.  The Razorbacks would follow with an RBI single to go up 2-0, followed by a walk and another one-bagger. A wild pitch allowed Arkansas to go up 3-0, followed by a single and the second error of the inning which allowed two runners to reach home safely.

LA Tech scored its lone run of the night on a solo home run by redshirt sophomore first baseman Reagan Marchant, marking the first home run of her career.

Courtney Day led off the top of the third with a double and would come around to score on a Kennedy Miller ground out to give the Hogs a 6-1 advantage.

Alexis Gilio recorded Tech's second hit of the night in the bottom of the frame on a single through the left side, but LA Tech was unable to make anything of it after a strike out and a flyout.

Arkansas scored two more runs in the fourth on a two-run home run, followed by one more in the fifth on a solo blast.

Karli Sellers recorded her first hit of the season in a pinch-hit opportunity in the bottom of the sixth for LA Tech's third and final hit of the night.

Shull took the loss in the circle and moves to 0-1 after allowing five unearned runs on four hits. Alyssa Martin pitched 3.0 innings in relief duty and allowed three runs on four hits. Mattison Buster tossed 1.0 inning and gave up one run on two hits.
