HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Bulldogs fell to the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Friday night, 4-0, in the opener of a three-game series at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
The Bulldogs tallied just one hit in Friday's game as Southern Miss' pitching staff displayed a dominant performance on the mound.
The Golden Eagles opened up in the first inning with an early 1-0 lead after four-straight batters reached base, but
Grant Hubka was able to minimize the damage and get out of the frame leaving the bases loaded.
After three scoreless frames from both sides, Southern Miss doubled its lead in the fifth on back-to-back doubles before tallying a sacrifice fly in the seventh and eighth innings to give them their third and fourth runs.
Connor Nation allowed one run on two hits, two walks and striking out four batters. It is the second time he's fanned at least four batters in three outings this season (Maine, 2/14).
Due to expected inclement weather in the Hattiesburg area on Sunday, the series finale has been pushed up to a Saturday doubleheader. The first game of the day starts at 12 p.m. CT with the series finale to follow 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
