BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Louisiana Tech softball's winning streak came to an end at nine games after the Bulldogs suffered an 8-0 loss in six innings to Western Kentucky on Friday night at the WKU Softball Complex. The loss moves LA Tech to 20-12 (7-3 CUSA).
The Bulldogs were outhit 8-1 in the loss, with
Nicole Hammoude collecting the lone hit for LA Tech.
Allie Floyd made the start and took the loss as she moves to 15-6 on the season. Floyd only gave up one run through the first five frames before allowing six runs in the bottom of the sixth. She allowed seven hits while striking out eight and walking three.
Rylan Smith earned the win for the Hilltoppers after tossing a 6.0 inning one hit shutout while striking out five and walking two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hilltoppers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Maci Masters hit a two-out solo shot to left center for the first run of the game.
Hammoude doubled to right center in the second and became the first of four runners left on base in the game for LA Tech as the Bulldogs could not move her over.
The Bulldogs got two more runners aboard in the in top of the fifth as
Reagan Marchant and
Jina Baffuto both drew walks, but nothing would come of it.
WKU scratched across seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to complete the 8-0 run-rule win in six innings. Masters led off the inning with a double and advanced to second on a single. Back-to-back walks would load the bases and push a run across to make it 2-0 WKU, followed by a single that scored two runs to make it 4-0. After a LA Tech pitching change, two more walks would load the bases again and advance another runner home making it 5-0. The Hilltoppers would then score three runs on a Kendle White double to center field which ended the game.
