RUSTON – Louisiana Tech's Niilo Maki-Petaja tees off Monday as an at-large individual to begin the 2025 NCAA Tallahassee Regional.

ABOUT NIILO MAKI-PETAJA
For a second straight season, Maki-Petaja was selected for the regional round of the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships as an at-large individual.  The sophomore, who was recently named Second Team All-Conference USA, currently sits at No. 215 in the country. 
 
Maki-Petaja recorded eight top 20 finishes during the 2024-25 season, including four in the top 10, and was the top Bulldog in 11 of the 12 events.  His best individual placing was a second-place finish at the GMAC Invitational after shooting 14 under, which tied the 54-hole program record.  His second-best placing came at the 2025 Conference USA Championship when he tied for sixth among the field of 45 golfers.
 
His 72 (E) in the final round at the CUSA Championship in Texarkana, Arkansas marked his 22nd round at or under par this season, setting a new single-season program history.  In the fall, he strung together eight straight rounds at or under par, including all three rounds at the GMAC Invitational and Trinity Forest Invitational.
