CHOUDRANT – Oskari Schuvalow shot a career-high low 68 (-4), putting the Bulldog in a tie for second as Louisiana Tech completed the first round of the Argent Financial Classic on Friday.
 
Playing as an individual, the junior Schuvalow sank eight birdies in route to opening the 2025-26 season with a round of four under.  Meanwhile, LA Tech's team shot 288 (E) to put the 'Dogs in ninth among the 17-team field.
 
Isaac Adams was the only other Bulldog to finish in the red after 18 holes.  The sophomore shot 35 on the back and then overcame back-to-back bogeys on No. 7 and No. 8 to birdie the Par 5 No. 9 and shoot a career-best one under (71). 
 
Senior Riley Hnatyshyn and junior transfer Chase Williams each shot even par 72 while sophomore transfer Abel Derksen was the fourth score used for LA Tech, shooting 73 (+1).
 
Also playing as individuals were Gray Kingrea (+1), Seth Campbell (+3), and Alejandro Sanchez (+14).
 
UL-Lafayette is atop the leaderboard at 280 (-8).  The Ragin' Cajuns rode the back of Malan Potgieter who is in the lead on the player leaderboard after firing a 65 (-7).  Rice is one shot back at 281 while South Alabama is two shots back at 282.  Only five strokes separate the teams four through ten.

"We did not do much bad, but we did not do much good either.  Overall, the first round of the year was what it was, even par.  We made a few mistakes coming in.  We must take better advantage of opportunities when they are presented to us and make a few less mistakes.  I'm not disappointed because I know some good stuff is there.  I am excited to see what is going to happen tomorrow.  I love the team dynamic.  It should lend itself to some good golf."

• The Bulldogs shot even par (288) in round one of the Argent Financial Classic.  It marked the 27th time that LA Tech has shot at or under par in their home event.
• Oskari Schuvalow registered his best round as a Bulldog with a 68 (-4) while also making a career-high eight birdies.  The four under ties for the 11th-best round ever by a Bulldog at their home event.   
• Isaac Adams recorded his best round as a Bulldog with a 71 (-1), his first round at or under par.
