Preview: LA Tech at LSU Bayou Bengal

The Bulldogs travel down south for their first in-state meet in Baton Rouge on Friday, January 23.

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Tech men's and women's track and field teams are set for their second meet of the season and first in their home state in the Bayou Bengal hosted by LSU in Baton Rouge at the Carl Maddox Field House.

The Bulldogs are coming off a stellar opening weekend at the Arkansas Invitational on Friday, January 16. LA Tech saw two program records set by Sabastian Bradley-Reed (300m) and Kaitlyn Washington (Weight Throw).
 
Tennessee transfer Rickey Williams III made his mark in his Bulldog debut, running 47.54 to move into the program's all-time indoor top five. His time currently stands as the 33rd-best in NCAA Division I and second-best in Conference USA.
 
Jamara Patterson holds the best time in the 400 by over a second with a time of 53.96, which also ranks among the top 20 nationally. Nia Wiley and Jenaia Williams also sit among the top 10 in CUSA in the 400.
 
Patterson, along with Osaretin Joy Usenbor, Wiley and Williams hold the best time in the 4x400-meter relay in the conference by nearly four seconds with a time of 3:39.77, which is good for the 10th-best time in indoor program history.
 
Several other Bulldogs sit among the top 10 in the CUSA rankings; Karo Oghomi and Lukundo Kapambalala are tied for fourth in the 60, each with a time of 6.79. Oghomi is also in fourth in the men's 200 at 21.83. Freshman Tyrica Sterrett is tied for second in the women's 60 with a time of 7.49, just .02 seconds shy of the current CUSA leader.
 
Kaitlyn Washington's record-breaking toss of 18.88 meters in the weight throw is fifth-best in CUSA and 60th in the country.
 
Porter Neal (seventh) and Cullen Hronek (ninth) are among the top 10 alongside Williams III in the 400, while Brayden Vining (fourth) and Cameren Williams (ninth) rank in the men's 800.
 
The men's 4x400-meter relay team comprised of Hronek, Bradley-Reed, Williams III and Neal hold the second-best time in CUSA at 3:15.99, and A'reil Williams is fourth in high jump at 1.65m.
