Preview: LA Tech at LSU Opener

The ‘Dogs open up the 2026 outdoor season with a one-day meet down in Baton Rouge.

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Tech men's and women's track and field teams return to action on Saturday, March 21 to begin the outdoor slate of 2026 at the LSU Opener in Baton Rouge.

The 'Dogs are coming off the CUSA Indoor Championships two weeks prior to the outdoor opener, securing three individual championships along with seven total podium finishes.
 
Sebastian Bradley-Reed secured his second-straight gold medal in the men's 400, as well as propelling the men's 4x400 relay team to a bronze medal. Bradley-Reed is the first athlete since 2016-17 to win consecutive gold medals in the men's 400 since WKU's Emmanuel Dasor.
 
A'reil Williams won the second gold medal of her career and the first in indoor competition, while Jamara Patterson rounded out Tech's individual champions with a gold finish in the women's 400.
 
This will the fourth-straight season the 'Dogs compete in an outdoor meet at LSU, most recently competing at the LSU Alumni Gold in 2025. Donald Lamp set the men's outdoor program record in the hammer throw for the second time that season with a mark of 60.44 meters.
 
Oscar Smith finished third in the men's 110-meter with a time of 13.55, the 10th-fastest time in program history, while Bradley-Reed and Osaretin Joy Usenbor also set top-10 marks in the men's and women's 400.
 
The women's 4x400 saw a third-place finish with the fifth-fastest time in program history, posting a mark of 3:33.86. The men's 4x400 team finished fourth with a time of 3:06.16, which currently stands as the third-fastest time in outdoor program history.
