Constitution
ARTICLE I
Name of Organization
The name of the organization shall be the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (hereafter referred to as SAAC).
ARTICLE II
Purpose
- Serve as a voice for all student-athletes at Louisiana Tech University.
- Opportunity for the student-athlete population to more effectively communicate with the Louisiana Tech University Athletic Department administration.
- Medium for student-athletes to assemble to discuss their athletics experience at Louisiana Tech University.
- Serve as representatives of the student-athletes at Louisiana Tech University when requests are received for student speakers and/or guests at charitable and civic functions.
- Distribute information concerning the student-athlete experience at Louisiana Tech University to their respective teams.
- Encourage and organize the involvement of Louisiana Tech University student-athletes in campus and community projects.
- As a recognized organization of Louisiana Tech University, SAAC will educate the student body by offering activities and events to the general university community.
- Generate a high level of school spirit and pride among the student-athletes, general students, and faculty.
ARTICLE III
Membership
- Representatives must be eligible for competition for intercollegiate athletics at Louisiana Tech University. The team must be competing during the academic year to warrant representation on the SAAC.
- Representatives - each team will elect two representatives with the assistance of the head coach and the Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Academic Services, who will have speaking and voting privileges at the SAAC meetings.
- Alternates will assume speaking and voting privileges when the lead representative is not present at the SAAC meetings.
- Officers - for the next calendar year will be elected at the last meeting of each calendar year. These officers include President, Vice-President, Community Service Chair, Public Relations Chair, and Treasurer.
- Subcommittees - may be formed upon the approval of the SAAC.
ARTICLE IV
Executive Board
- Executive Board will consist of the President, Vice-President, Community Service Chair, SA Social Events & Support, SGA Representative, Secretary/Treasurer, and SAAC Advisor.
- Nominations will be solicited for President, Vice-President, Community Service Chair, SA Social Events & Support, SGA Representative, Secretary/Treasurer. The representative receiving the most votes for the respective position will be appointed. President will be elected first, and then a separate vote for the Vice President will occur, followed by the vote for the Community Service Chair position, then the Public Relations Chair position, SGA Representative and finally a vote for the Secretary position. If the elected officer is also nominated for the other positions, their name will be removed from consideration of those remaining positions.
- Officers shall serve a term of one (1) year. It is permissible for an individual to be voted to an office for more than one term, if still eligible and re-elected.
President
- Presides over all SAAC meetings.
- Serve as the spokesperson of the SAAC.
Vice-President
- Will perform the functions of the office of the President in the absence of the President.
- Works with SAAC advisor to schedule all SAAC meetings.
- Oversees and works with Community Service Chair, SA Social Events & Support, SGA Representative, and Secretary/Treasurer to ensure events are being held, promoted, and funded.
Community Service Chair
- Oversees all community service efforts/events
- Must ensure that all SAAC representatives are involved in some aspect of each community service event.
SA Social Events & Support
- Oversees all SAAC Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
- Creates all emails to send campus-wide promoting SAAC and/or SAAC sponsored events.
- Oversees the production of SAAC news letter
- Coordinates any television, radio, or newspaper features on SAAC and/or SAAC sponsored events.
SGA Representative
- Attend weekly SGA meetings to represent SAAC
- Complete all SGA duties
- Relay SGA information to the SAAC at meetings/Update SAAC constitution as needed
- Participate in SAAC events
- Oversees all fundraising efforts and manages the SAAC budget.
- Conduct at least two fundraising events (1 per semester) to raise money for SAAC. The money raised can be used for something SAAC deems necessary to purchase for the Athletic Department or the committee itself (i.e. Hooded Sweatshirts, Jackets, Shirts, etc.). Money also can be donated to a charity selected by SAAC members.
Secretary/Treasurer
- Shall be responsible for taking active minutes at each meeting and preparing any documents requested from the President and Vice President. Help assist SAAC advisor with financial matters
Advisor
- Work with officers in conducting the business of the SAAC.
- Serve as liaisons between the SAAC and the Athletic Department.
ARTICLE V
Conduct of Business
- Meetings - meeting will be scheduled approximately once a month when school is in session. There will be no meeting scheduled during the summer sessions. The time and place of the meetings will be determined by the Executive Board.
- A simple majority of representatives must be present to conduct the business of the SAAC.
- Motions will be passed by a majority of the members present at the meeting.
- These articles may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the total membership of the SAAC and approval of the Athletic Director.
- Special meetings may be scheduled at the request of the Executive Board of the SAAC. A majority vote of the total SAAC is necessary to hold special meetings. SAAC members will be notified of special meetings at least three (3) days in advance of the meeting.
- The agenda for a SAAC meeting shall be e-mailed at least one (1) day prior to the meeting. All correspondence will be facilitated through the Athletic Department office.
- The Secretary shall take roll before each meeting.
- If a representative is absent for three (3) consecutive meetings, the Executive Board (officers) and SAAC Advisor will meet to vote on continued membership of that representative.
- Regularly scheduled meetings will be "open" meetings.
- No expenditures shall be made without approval of the Committee's Advisor(s) and President.
- Parliamentary procedures shall be followed at all meetings.
