Teddy Veal

A former Louisiana Tech standout wide receiver, Teddy Veal has elevated the coaching ranks at Tech following his playing career. Veal was promoted to running backs coach prior to the 2023 season after serving as an offensive analyst in 2022 and a graduate assistant from 2020-2022.

Veal saw five different running backs carry the ball in 2024, led by Omiri Wiggins who rushed for 527 yards and four scores on 111 carries. Wiggins, who showed flashes early in the season burst onto the scene against MTSU and became the Bulldogs’ primary ball carrier after starting the season third on the depth chart. Bulldog running backs combined for four 100-yard rushing performances. Amani Givens recorded 103 yards on 17 carries in a win over WKU, while Wiggins ran for a room-best 129 yards and three touchdowns against Kennesaw State.

Veal’s impact on the Bulldogs’ running backs was evident in 2023. Despite multiple injuries at the position of the course of the season the Bulldogs rushed for over 100 yards in seven games and ranked third in Conference USA in first downs gained with 243. The LA Tech running backs combined for 16 touchdowns and 1,374 rushing yards as five different running backs scored at least one touchdown during the season.

Many individual accomplishments occurred under Veal’s coaching. Tyre Shelton led the Bulldogs in rushing with 551 yards and five touchdowns while averaging 5.7 yards a carry. He became the first Bulldog to rush for 100+ yards in three consecutive games since Boston Scott did so in 2017. Keith Willis found the end zone seven times, becoming the first Bulldog freshman to lead the team in rushing touchdowns since Kenneth Dixon in 2012 and scored multiple touchdowns in three games during the 2023 season.

After prepping at West Jefferson High School, where he was an all-state selection as a senior and helped led the Buccaneers to three state playoff appearances, Veal signed with Tulane. After spending the 2014-15 seasons at Tulane, Veal transferred to LA Tech where he lettered and garnered all-conference honors in 2017 and 2018.

During his two seasons as a Bulldog, Veal caught 144 passes for 1,666 yards and eight touchdowns while also returning 20 punts for 168 yards and a touchdown.
