Emerald Doria

Emerald Doria joined Mark Montgomery's staff at Louisiana Tech in 2014 and just completed her second season as the associate head coach after earning the much-deserved promotion following her work during her days in Ruston.

Doria, who played for Montgomery during her collegiate days at Centenary College in Shreveport, has been instrumental in helping Louisiana Tech record five straight 30-plus win seasons – a feat that hasn’t been accomplished by the program since the 1990s – and three conference titles (2019 regular season, 2017 & 2019 tournament) over the last three seasons.

Included in that success was LA Tech's 2019 Conference USA regular season title – first in program history – and its 2017 and 2019 C-USA Tournament titles as well as a pair of NCAA Regional appearances over the past three seasons.

This past year the Lady Techsters won 45 games, the second most in program history, while claiming both the regular season and tournament championships. Tech broke numerous team and individual single season offensive marks along the way. She was part of the 2019 staff that was named the NFCA Mideast Region co-Coaching Staff of the Year and served alongside head coach Mark Montgomery, who was named the C-USA and LSWA State co-Coach of the Year.

Doria, who handles the Lady Techster infielders and serves as the primary hitting coach, has been a big reason why LA Tech has broken more than three dozen single season and career offensive records during the past six years. The former Centenary star also oversees the video editing aspect of the program while also being heavily involved in recruiting.

"Emerald is invaluable to me and to this program," Montgomery said. "She earned the promotion to associate head coach with all of the hard work she has done on and off the field the last four years. She is my sounding board and my confidant when it comes to this program. She is a huge reason why we have been able to elevate this program the last four years."

Tech has also seen 20 players earn all-conference honors over the past four seasons, the most in any four-year span in program history. She has worked closely with 2018 C-USA Player of the Year Morgan Turkoly and 2019 C-USA Player of the Year Jazlyn Crowder along with 2019 C-USA Freshman of the Year Lindsay Edwards.

Doria spent four years at C.E. Byrd High School including three as the head coach of the varsity program prior to coming to Tech in the summer of 2014. She lettered for four years at Centenary College in Shreveport where she played for Montgomery.

During her career at Centenary, Doria became one of the Ladies all-time offensive leaders as she still ranks in numerous categories, including No. 1 in runs scored (127), No. 1 in walks (107), No. 3 in hits (165), No. 3 in home runs (22), No. 3 in slugging percentage (.458), No. 5 in at bats (586) and No. 5 in total bases (259).

She was a three-time all-conference selection (1st team Mid-Con in 2006; 2nd team Summit League in 2007, 2008) while also earning the Mid-Con Conference Freshman of the Year award and the Louisiana Sports Writers Association co-Freshman of the Year award in 2006. She was a four-year starter at shortstop and a two-time team captain for Montgomery.

Doria began her coaching career as an assistant in 2009 for the late Dan Moreman at Byrd High School. In December of 2009, she took over as the associate head coach and then was promoted to head coach in August of 2010. During her time at Byrd, she led the Yellow Jackets to a pair of district titles and four playoff appearances while being named the district coach of the year in 2011.

The San Antonio, Texas native earned her bachelor's degree in health and exercise science at Centenary 2010 and is pursuing her master's degree in education.

She is married to Candace (Rushing) Doria and the couple has a two-year-old son, Mays.
