Beyone 1894 Podcast | 101. Kyle Kavanaugh: Recruit Everyone Every Day
Kyle Kavanaugh is in his fifth year at Louisiana Tech University, where he serves as Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs and Chief Brand Officer. A proud LA Tech alumnus, Kavanaugh is a member of the Athletics Executive Staff and oversees the strategic growth and integration of the department’s external operations.
Kavanaugh returned to Louisiana Tech Athletics in 2022 as Assistant Athletics Director for Strategic Communications, serving as the primary media contact for football, women’s basketball, soccer, track and field, and bowling. He was later promoted to Associate AD for External Operations, where he assumed leadership of the department’s marketing, promotions, and fan experience efforts before transitioning into his current role overseeing the full external operations unit, while also serving as the Sport Administrator for Women's Soccer during the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
In his current role, Kavanaugh leads the advancement of marketing, fan experience, creative video, photography, graphic design, broadcasting, and strategic communications. He is the architect of the department’s “Bark Louder” campaign—a unifying brand initiative designed to elevate fan engagement, strengthen institutional identity, and amplify the voice of Louisiana Tech Athletics across all platforms.
Under his leadership, Louisiana Tech has built a fully integrated in-house creative video and broadcasting operation, significantly enhancing the quality, consistency, and reach of digital storytelling, live game production, and ESPN+ broadcasts. Over the past three years, these efforts have contributed to record-breaking growth across the department’s social media platforms, with Louisiana Tech Athletics consistently achieving new benchmarks in engagement and audience reach. In 2025, Kavanaugh also helped launch The Tech Drive, the department’s official podcast, further expanding Louisiana Tech’s storytelling and digital content ecosystem.
Kavanaugh has also played a key role in strengthening internal operations by leading initiatives focused on improving departmental efficiency, alignment, and procedural clarity, including serving as co-chair of the department’s CHAMP Vision, Values, and Standards of Behavior Taskforce, helping to define and operationalize the cultural framework that guides Louisiana Tech Athletics.
In addition, he has developed a cross-functional, academic experiential learning model that connects Louisiana Tech students directly with Athletics through hands-on opportunities in marketing, content creation, event operations, and fan engagement.
As part of this integrated approach, Kavanaugh founded the Blue Bloods student organization and helped build a comprehensive student engagement framework designed to enhance the game day atmosphere and deepen campus connection. This includes the implementation of a student rewards program that incentivizes attendance and participation, as well as expanded outreach initiatives that connect students, faculty, and staff with Louisiana Tech Athletics and the Ruston and Lincoln Parish communities.
Kavanaugh also serves as the primary liaison for spirit and support groups, including the Band of Pride, Cheer, Regal Blues, and Champ.
A native of Benton, Louisiana, Kavanaugh holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology Education and a Master of Arts in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Louisiana Tech. Prior to his career in athletics administration, he spent 15 years as a high school educator and coach, capturing back-to-back state championships in boys’ basketball and a state runner-up finish in track and field.
In 2019, Kavanaugh transitioned into entrepreneurship, co-founding two businesses and a podcast focused on leadership, coaching, and character development. He continues to consult with organizations nationally on social media strategy, youth sports development, and performance environment design.
Kyle resides in Ruston with his wife, Meghan, and their daughter, Kendall.
