Louisiana Tech Athletics and Learfield announced the hiring of Kyle Schassburger as the new Director of Broadcasting.
A seasoned and innovative media professional with over a decade of collegiate sports broadcasting experience, Schassburger brings a versatile and accomplished background as the newly named ‘Voice of the Bulldogs.’
“From the beginning of the search process, there was one name that was brought to my attention from multiple angles and that was Kyle Schassburger,” said Louisiana Tech Sports Properties General Manager Brad Pietz. “I am excited to have him join us as our Director of Broadcasting and I look forward to hearing Bulldog fans reactions to his enthusiasm and passion on the calls over the Louisiana Tech Sports Network.
“As someone who has listened to Dave and Malcolm call Tech games for the last 50 and 25 years, this was an extremely important hire for me. I wanted to hire the best Director of Broadcasting possible, and I believe that we have done just that.”
Schassburger joins LA Tech after serving as a Network Coordinator for six years at Learfield, where he directed the planning and execution of radio broadcasts for top-tier athletic programs including Arkansas, Georgia Southern, Southern Miss, UAB, Tulane, and Charlotte. His role included affiliate relations, talent management, content creation, and live production, while also leading staff mentorship and operational refinements across the Learfield audio division.
“I have worked tirelessly in positioning myself to one day represent an institution with incredible tradition that is also committed to executing a vision for the future,” said Schassburger. “Louisiana Tech emphatically delivers in those areas and more. Since the start of this process, I’ve become deeply connected to uncovering what defines the Tech brand and how I might be able to help amplify that messaging. Dave Nitz set the standard. I’m truly honored to build upon his legacy while carving out my own through a unique injection of energy and enthusiasm behind the mic, in the Ruston community and across Louisiana.
“I’m eternally grateful to Ryan Ivey, Brad Pietz, and the entire search committee for their belief in my abilities. I will remain just as intentional in working to gain the trust of everyone associated with Tech. I am beyond fired up and cannot wait to begin this next chapter as ‘The Voice!’”
He is widely recognized for his work as studio host and producer for Duke Men’s Basketball and as a rotational host on the nationally syndicated ‘College Football Blitz’ and ‘College Sports Now’. His leadership and creativity were pivotal in the 2025 rebrand of the college baseball podcast into ‘Dumbbells, Dugouts & Dingers’, elevating the digital presence of Learfield’s audio content.
In 2024, Schassburger originated and hosted the ‘Regional Rundown Show’, the first ‘NFL Red Zone’-style audio show for NCAA Division I Baseball Regionals, further demonstrating his trailblazing approach in collegiate sports media.
His extensive play-by-play résumé includes coverage of the SEC Baseball and Women’s Basketball Tournaments, Arkansas Razorbacks Basketball and Baseball, Georgia Southern Baseball, and national tournament broadcasts for the ACC and SEC, among others.
“We are excited to welcome Kyle to the Louisiana Tech family as the new ‘Voice of the Bulldogs,’” said Vice President and Director of Athletics Ryan Ivey. “When we set out for this historic search, we wanted to make sure that we found someone that would create a bridge between the historic past with Dave Nitz but have the ability to elevate our fan development and brand management opportunities.
“This was a national search that brought over 100 applicants from all over the country, and it was quick to see the respect and reputation that Tech Athletics has within the broadcasting world. We made sure to have a thorough, inclusive process, and I am proud to say that ended with the right person for the job. Bulldog fans are going to enjoy listening to Kyle for years to come.”
In addition to his broadcast experience, Schassburger has served as a Fun Committee Planner at Learfield, championing team culture and internal engagement, and as a Big Brother with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, underscoring his commitment to mentorship and community impact.
A graduate of Western Illinois University, Schassburger holds a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting with a minor in Coaching. He brings a dynamic presence, innovative mindset, and proven leadership to the Bulldogs' radio operations.
