RUSTON - Louisiana Tech junior running back John Simon earned the offensive player of the week award handed out by the Bulldog coaching staff for his versatile performance in a 42-19 win over Louisiana-Monroe Saturday.
The Baton Rouge, La., native rushed 11 times for 80 yards against the Indians, while also recording five receptions for 77 yards including a 25-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter.
Sophomore defensive lineman Carlin Thomas earned the defensive player of the week honors after recording six tackles in the contest. Thomas led a Bulldog defensive unit that forced three turnovers and allowed the Tech offense to register a 26-0 lead before allowing the Indians to score.
Junior defensive back Montoya Gipson was named special teams player of the week for his efforts on the kickoff and punt coverage units.
