Stallworth Tabbed Independent Newcomer of the Year

RUSTON (July 27)- Street & Smith's College Football Preview publication has tabbed Louisiana Tech junior quarterback Brian Stallworth the Independent Newcomer of the Year for the upcoming season.
Louisiana Tech backup quarterback Brian Stallworth (7) calls for his father to come down out of the stands as he reacts with teammate John Simon (8) after beating 18th ranked Alabama 29-28 at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala., on Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999. Stallworth came in at the end of the game for three plays - he threw the game tying touchdown with two seconds remaining after starting quarterback Tim Rattay was injured. (AP Photo)
The magazine had plenty of praise for Stallworth, who takes over the signal calling duties for the departed Tim Rattay.

"(Rattay) is gone after rewriting the Tech record book, but the offense still looks to be in good hands with promising junior Brian Stallworth stepping in."

In addition to Stallworth's high marks, S&S also raved about the Tech wide receivers, tabbing them as "maybe the finest receiving corps in the land."

The publication also picked Tech's contest against Miami Oct. 28th as one of the Top 6 independent games to watch.
