RUSTON, La. -- Louisiana Tech Coach Jack Bicknell got his first glimpse of his prize possession in the 2000 recruiting class Wednesday morning when freshman quarterback Luke McCown arrived for practice.

McCown, who starred at Jacksonville High School in Texas, arrived a day late due to his participation in the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star game which was held at Rice Stadium in Houston Tuesday (Aug.1) night.

The 6-foot-4-inch signal caller was one of three quarterbacks to lead the south team, completing 4-of-7 passes for 46 yards and a touchdown in a 17-13 loss.

"It was a lot of fun," McCown said. "I already knew a lot of the guys who were playing so it was nice to get to spend the week with them."

McCown earned the district most valuable player award during his senior season and is a two-time All-East Texas member.
