KSU's Snyder Wary of Stallworth

RUSTON, La. -- Kansas State Head Coach Bill Snyder needs little introduction to Louisiana Tech quarterback Brian Stallworth, who his No. 8 ranked Wildcats prepare to face this weekend in Manhattan, Kan.

The 12-year veteran of the KSU sideline, who owns an 89-40-1 career record, already knows plenty about Stallworth's past heroics.

"Well, the first thing in looking at Stallworth is that I look back to Alabama game last year and he's the guy that comes in and throws the touchdown pass to win the ball game," Snyder said in his weekly press conference. "Now for a guy that has been sitting on the bench for most of the season and gets introduced in Alabama's stadium with two seconds to go on the clock and jumps in and beats what eventually became the No. 6 team in the United States, that tells me a lot about him."

The Baton Rouge, La., native took over the reigns Saturday night against Mississippi Valley State and promptly completed 26-of-31 passes for 357 yards and four touchdowns in only three quarters of work.

"I think that was a great game for him," said Tech Head Coach Jack Bicknell. "That's the type of player I thought he would be, and I think that's the type of player he will continue to be. He has the ability to pass and throw and help open up our run game. I'm anxious to see him in a big time setting Saturday."

Snyder might not be as eager as Bicknell to see Stallworth this weekend after having reviewed the game films. And although Snyder knows Stallworth is a dangerous passer, he fears the junior's ability to make something happen with his athletic ability.

"Now as we watch him from some of last year's tape, and this year, I think he has a dimension that Tim Rattay did not have, and that is, Brian is a very mobile young man," Snyder said. "He moves around in the pocket well, but even more than that, he has the ability to run the draw plays. Some of the other things you can do in the running game with your quarterback, he is very capable of doing that."

The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder has already shown a glimpse of his running ability by rushing 12 times for 53 yards in two career starts.

"I think he has a lot of positive things going for him," Snyder said. "That offense is one that a quarterback is going to flourish in it, and I think he is probably ready to do that."

At 6:10 p.m. Saturday the entire nation will find out as the Bulldogs face Kansas State on Fox Sports Net.
