Bulldogs Open Conference Play With Split Against FIU

MIAMI, Fla. - Louisiana Tech split a pair of games against #28 ranked Florida International Saturday afternoon to open up Sun Belt Conference play.

The Bulldogs (9-8, 1-1 SBC) fell 17-3 in the first game while collecting a 10-7 extra inning win in the second contest. Florida International (22-6, 1-1 SBC) used a six-run third inning to take the lead and never trailed the remainder of the contest.

Tech's Jake Adams collected two hits for the Bulldogs while Wade Robinson gathered two RBI's to lead the team.

Florida International's Jerry Courtney (3-1) gathered the win after pitching five innings, giving up three runs and six hits while striking out nine.

Lee Gwaltney (2-2) took the loss, giving up eight runs on seven hits in 2 1/3 innings.

In the second contest, the Bulldogs scored six runs in the eighth inning of a scheduled seven inning contest to pull out the win.

Robinson picked up two RBI's on two hits and extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

Adams went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with four RBI's.

Matt Buckle (1-0) picked up his first win of the season, pitching three innings and giving up three runs on two hits.

Osvaldo Lugo (0-1) took the loss for the Golden Panthers, giving up five runs without recording an out.

The rubber match between the two teams will be played Sunday at 12:00 p.m.

The game will be broadcast on KLPI 89.1 (Ruston).
