Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Louisiana Tech softball team swept a doubleheader against Belmont College Thursday afternoon, 5-2 and 1-0, to extend its winning streak to eight games.
The Lady Techsters (16-11) have won 10 of their last 11 games and collect eight consecutive wins for the first time since a 25-game win streak during the 1996 and 1997 seasons.
In the first contest, with the score tied 2-2, Erin Chernicky plated the winning run in the top of the seventh inning with an RBI single. The Lady Techsters added two more insurance runs in the inning with RBIs by Jen LaRussa and Lindsey Meadows.
LaRussa and Meadows picked up two RBIs apiece in the contest while Chernicky went 2-for-2 with one RBI. Meadows (9-4) collected the win for Tech, giving up only two runs on eight hits in seven innings of work while striking out six batters.
In the second contest, Sabra Warner (4-3) pitched her third shutout for the Lady Techsters, giving up only three hits in seven innings of work while holding Belmont scoreless.
Tech scored the winning and only run in the top of the seventh when Missy Ladd, who reached base on a walk, scored from first base on an error by the Belmont leftfielder. The Lady Techsters begin conference play with doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday against Middle Tennessee.
