RUSTON, La. ? Nevada used a 14-0 run late in the second half to surge past Louisiana Tech, 75-67, on Thursday night at Thomas Assembly Center in Western Athletic Conference men?s basketball action.
Tech led 55-52 with 8:50 left in the contest before the Wolfpack went on a 14-0 run over the next four and a half minutes to take a 66-55 advantage with 4:16 remaining in the contest to propel Nevada to the victory.
The loss breaks an 11-game home court winning streak for the Bulldogs, who fall to 5-6 and 2-2 in WAC play.
Nevada improves to 8-7 and 3-2 in league action as the Wolfpack won for the first time in league play on the road this year.
Tech could not take advantage of a career high of 34 points and 15 rebounds by
Antonio Meeking.
Michael Wilder added a season high of 17 points for Tech.
"I want to give a lot of credit to Nevada, they outplayed us tonight and deserved to win the game," Tech head coach Keith Richard said.
The teams were locked in a defensive struggle in the first half with Nevada laying claim to a 30-28 halftime advantage. Tech shot 36.7&% in the first half while the Wolfpack shot 39.4% in the opening 20 minutes. The Bulldogs committed nine first half turnovers as Nevada led for most of the first half.
"It was a tale of two halves. We played bad offense and good defense in the first half and bad defense and better offense in the second half," Richard said.
Tech led on several occasions in the second half and grabbed its largest lead at 55-52 before Nevada went on the 14-0 run to take control of the contest.
Nevada scored 31 points off 15 Bulldog turnovers in the game.
Tech struggled to defend well in the second half as Nevada erupted for 45 second half points and shot 59.3% from the field. This allowed the Wolfpack to overcome a solid second half by Tech on the offensive end as the Bulldogs shot 51.9% and scored 39 second half points.
"We did not defend well as a team in the second half and Nevada was able to take advantage of that and get some easy baskets," Richard said.
Nevada was led by Kirk Snyder with 19 points while Sean Paul, Jerry Petty and Garry Hill-Thomas also scored in double figures.
Tech won the rebounding battle 37-31 but struggled from three point range, connecting on only two of 11 attempts.
Louisiana Tech returns to action on Saturday when the Bulldogs host Fresno State at 7:00 p.m.
