Bulldogs Beat The Odds In Reno RENO, Nev. -- The improbable is becoming commonplace for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
It didn't come easily, but Louisiana Tech beat the odds Saturday to extend its win streak to seven games as the Bulldogs took a 99-97 road win in overtime at the Lawlor Events Center.
The win was Tech's second straight in three days over the top two teams in the Western Athletic Conference. Louisiana Tech defeated WAC leader Fresno State 80-77 on Thursday.
Tech's
Bruce Edwards nailed a jumper with seven seconds left in overtime to give the Bulldogs the two-point advantage and Nevada's Terrance Green missed a pair of free throws with 2.5 seconds left. Nevada's desparation shot at the buzzer fell short as the Bulldogs picked up their first overtime win of the season.
Green nailed a 3-pointer with 17 seconds in regulation to push the game into overtime as Edwards stepped out of bounds as he tried a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Tech also overcame big-time foul trouble that resulted in a season-high 56 free throw attempts by a Bulldogs opponent. The all-time record for free-throw attempts against the Bulldogs was by Texas Christian on Dec. 23, 1993.
There were a combined 65 fouls in the contest.
The Bulldogs had two players foul out and five others with four fouls in the contest.
Senior forward
Antonio Meeking topped Tech with 28 points while
Lavelle Felton added 23 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs despite fouling out with 3:01 remaining.
Edwards chipped in with 17 and
Michael Wilder added a 10-point performance for the Bulldogs.
Louisiana Tech will be looking to make it eight straight when the Bulldogs play host to Rice at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Thomas Assembly Center.
