Softball loses two on Texas trip
Tech (4-17) softball lost both ends of a doubleheader with the University of Houston on Saturday afternoon by scores of 2-0 and 6-0.
In game one the Lady Techsters were one-hit by Cougar pitcher Jenny Johnson (4-4), who walked two and struck out seven.
Senior starter Marla Pinkston (3-5) picked up the loss throwing six innings of four hit softball. She had seven strikeouts on the day.
Tech's lone hit came courtesy of junior shortstop Casey Reiff's two-out single to right-center in the first inning.
Game two wasn't as competitive as the opener due to six Lady Techster errors. The miscues led to four unearned runs in the 6-0 defeat.
"Sometimes its fielding, sometimes its throwing, and everybody seems to contribute to the problem," Techster head coach Sarah Dawson said. "We keep making mistakes as a team which makes it very hard to win."
Freshman Kristin Rupp (1-9) picked up the loss with a line that read six innings pitched, two earned runs and one strikeout.
Sophomore left fielder Brittany Stanley had two hits in the game but was erased on a double play in the fourth inning and stranded at second base in the sixth inning.
Tech returns to action Wednesday afternoon with a home doubleheader against Southeastern Louisiana University, scheduled for 3 p.m.
