Softball drops two in Texas
Tech (10-26) fell to 2-2 in its last four contests with a doubleheader defeat at Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday night. The Lady Techsters fell in game one (5-1) but rebounded for a more competitive game in the nightcap. However, the final was a 6-3 defeat by the Ladyjacks at the Coy Simms Softball Complex.
Senior Tech starter Marla Pinkston (7-10) struck out three hitters on way to allowing five runs (one earned) over six innings in the opener.
Lady Techster fielding errors were again the team's downfall as single errors in the third and sixth innings led to four unearned runs.
Tech's lone run came on a RBI single by Brittany Stanley that drove in Aimee Coleman in the top of the third inning. At the time, the run evened the score at one apiece, but SFA would score the last four runs for the victory.
In game two freshman Kristen Rupp (3-13) took the mound allowing nine hits and six runs (two earned) in six innings of action.
The Lady Techsters did manage a three-run sixth inning, but the scoring outburst proved to late as the squad was already down six runs by that point.
Offensively Tech was led by third baseman Bridget Broadnax. The freshman tallied two hits (one double) and two RBIs in game two.
Tech returns to action on Friday with a single road game at Centenary.
