Lady Techster softball falls to ULM

Box Score Posted Apr 23, 2003 20:05:47 Lady Techster softball falls to ULM

Tech couldn't seem to get past the Lady Indians of ULM as the team dropped a Wednesday night contest in Monroe by the score 3-2.

The loss ended Tech's two-game winning streak and dropped the club to 16-32 on the season.

The Lady Techsters jumped on the scoreboard first with two runs in top of the second inning.

Second baseman Mary Cohn opened with a single and later crossed the plate on a Erin Chernicky RBI single. Brittany Stanley would later drive Tech's second run to post the early 2-0 lead.

Momentum started to swing in the third inning when ULM scored a single run to cut the lead in half. The Lady Indians would later hit a leadoff homerun to start the fourth inning to tie the score.

"We came out and did what we wanted by scoring early," Tech head coach Sarah Dawson said. "It just seemed we rested on that and momentum started to swing their way when they led of the fourth with a home run and the next batter reached on an error."

Leslie Venissat would later score ULM's winning run when the team successfully pulled off a double steal. Her run was unearned due an early inning infield error.

Kristin Rupp (5-16) picked up the loss pitching three plus innings and allowing three runs (two earned). Marla Pinkston pitched the last three innings for Tech in a scoreless relief effort.

Tech will return to action on Saturday with a road double header at Tulsa.
