Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Posted Apr 26, 2003 17:06:25 Tulsa Downs Techsters Twice

RUSTON - Louisiana Tech was unable to capitalize on a pair of strong pitching performances Saturday as the Tulsa Golden Hurricane downed the Lady Techsters 1-0 and 2-1 in a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep in Tulsa, Okla.

Senior Marla Pinkston held Tulsa (31-23, 6-6) to only two hits in the first six innings of game No. 1 before a throwing error with one out in the bottom of the seventh allowed the game-winning run to score.

Golden Hurricane first baseman Katie Torres opened the seventh with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Kelly Miller pinch ran for Torres and scored on a throwing error by Tech (16-34, 6-6) on Stacey Walkingstick's infield single.

Pinkston (11-14) picked up the loss, despite allowing only four hits, no walks and one unearned run in 6.1 innings of work. Second baseman Mary Cohn led Tech offensively in game No. 1 with two hits while Brittany Stanley, Casey Reiff and Aimee Coleman each added one hit.

In the second game of the day, Tulsa struck first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-out, two-run home run by Walkingstick off of Pinkston.

Tech answered with a single run in the top of the fifth inning. Brittany Stanley singled to lead the inning off and then stole second base before Amber Miles singled her home to cut into the Golden Hurricane lead. Miles was eventually stranded at third base.

The Lady Techsters had an opportunity to tie the game in the top of the seventh before Stanley, who singled and advanced to second on a passed ball, was picked off for the second out of the inning.

Stanley recorded three hits in the game, while Miles added two and Cohn and Bridget Broadnax each added one. Pinkston picked up her second loss of the day, hurling four innings, while allowing three hits and two walks.
