RUSTON, La. ? The Louisiana Tech softball squad got off to a great start in Western Athletic Conference softball action on Saturday as the Lady Techsters swept a doubleheader from Tulsa to open league play.

Tech rallied past the Golden Hurricane (25-17, 0-2 WAC) for a 2-1, 10-inning win in game one and posted a 2-1, nine-inning victory in the nightcap.

Marla Pinkston (8-11) pitched all ten inning in game one, allowing just one run while striking out three.

Tech (12-27, 2-0 WAC) scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. With one out, Aimee Coleman singled to left field and advanced to second base after the ball was misplayed by the Tulsa outfielder.

Coleman advanced to third base on a ground out by Brittany Stanley before a two-out single by Amber Miles tied the game at 1-1.

Miles led the tenth inning off with a single and eventually scored on a two-out wild pitch by Tulsa pitcher Ami Day (10-8).

Day suffered the loss despite allowing just one earned run and striking out 11 in 9 2/3 innings.

In game two, Louisiana Tech also had to pull off some late-inning heroics.
Tulsa took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a home run by Brandi McGuire.

Tech came back to tie the score in the fifth inning. A two-out single by Sabra Warner scored Casey Reiff from second base. Reiff led the inning off with a single.

The score stayed tied until the ninth inning.

Tulsa?s Danielle Olsen was called out on a very close play at first for the third out in the top of the ninth inning. A runner was on third and would have scored on the play had Olsen been called safe. Tulsa head coach James Pinkerton did not agree with the call and was ejected after arguing the call.

Bridget Broadnax blasted a one-out, walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Lady Techsters a 2-1 win and a sweep of the Golden Hurricane.

Kristin Rupp (4-13) got the win in game two, pitching seven innings and allowing five hits and no runs. Pinkston started game two and pitched the first two innings.
