McCown Named WAC and State Offensive Player of the Week
RUSTON - Louisiana Tech quarterback Luke McCown earned a pair of awards Monday following his performance in the Bulldogs 20-19 victory over Michigan State Saturday.
Both the Western Athletic Conference and the Louisiana Sports Writers Association named McCown the Offensive Player of the Week.
The senior signal caller completed 35 of 61 passes for 436 yards and three touchdowns, including two in the final 1:09, to lead Tech to the program's first victory over a Big Ten school.
McCown started Tech's scoring with a 76-yard touchdown strike to Shawn Piper in the first quarter. With the Bulldogs trailing 19-7 late in the game, the 6-foot-4-inch, 205-pounder hit Julius Cosby with a four-yard scoring strike before completing the miracle comeback with an 11-yard touchdown pass to DJ Curry with only :02 remaining in the game.
McCown also became only the 22nd quarterback in NCAA Division I history to record more than 10,000 career passing yards, accomplishing the feat on a six-yard completion to Curry in the second quarter.
