Louisiana Tech made a move in the second half and guarded its lead the rest of way as the Bulldogs took a 73-62 win over San Jose State Thursday at the Thomas Assembly Center.

The win pushed the Bulldogs to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in the WAC while San Jose State fell to 5-9 and 0-4.

Louisiana Tech snapped a three-game losing skid with the win while San Jose State has now lost six straight.

Tech led 29-27 at intermission and stretched its lead five minutes into the second half as the Bulldogs utilized a four-guard lineup much of the way through the final stanza.

Louisiana Tech's guards accounted for 70 percent of the team's scoring on the night with JueMichael Young leading the way with a career-high 24 points while Donell Allick added 10 points for the Bulldogs' backcourt.

"This was one of those games where we had to have good production from the guards because of the way San Jose (State) plays," Tech coach Keith Richard said. "We knew going in we'd have to have good play from our guards. As the game progressed, we knew our guards were going to have to make shots. Fortunately for us, tonight they did."

Young hit on 7-of-14 shots from the floor on the night, including 2-of-5 3-point attempts, while adding an 8-of-10 performance from the free-throw line.

"The team, and especially our guards, didn't hit the shots we needed in our last game against Fresno State, and we lost that one," Young said. "We knew we needed better shooting this time. We knew we had to turn in a better game from the guard position."

Wayne Powell added 13 points and five rebounds for the Bulldogs while freshman forward Paul Millsap, the NCAA's leading rebounder, added eight points and 12 boards for Tech.

"It felt good out there tonight," Millsap said. "They doubled down on us forwards, but that left our guards open. We just kicked it back out to them and they hit the shots we needed."

The Bulldogs outrebounded the Spartans 39-37 and hit on 41.8 percent of their shots from the floor (23-55) while holding SJSU to 40.7 percent (22-54) of its shots from the floor.

Tech took its first double-digit lead of the night at 60-50 with 4:03 remaining on a Young 3-pointer, and the Spartans sheered the Bulldogs' lead down to seven points three different times after that but could get no closer.

The biggest lead of the contest was a 12-point advantage for Tech at 56-44 on a Powell jumper with 7:31 remaining.

Brett Lilly poured in 17 points to lead SJSU while Phil Calvert added 11 points for the Spartans.

Tech returns to action on Saturday as the Bulldogs play host to Hawaii in a 7 p.m. contest at the Thomas Assembly Center.
