Bulldogs Look for Win Against Talented UAB
BIRMINGHAM- Louisiana Tech will complete its two game swing through the state of Alabama on Monday when the Bulldogs take on 2003 NCAA Tournament participant Alabama-Birmingham at 7:30 p.m.
The game will be broadcast on KNBB-FM (99.3) in Ruston due to a conflict with the final Tech football on Monday night as well.
The Bulldogs (1-2) are coming off a 79-67 defeat at Auburn on Saturday afternoon. Paul Millsap posted a career high 31 points along with 17 rebounds with 10 on the offensive end of the court but it was not enough as the quick Auburn guards were too much for Tech on Saturday.
Corey Dean also played well for Tech with a season high 19 points including 3 of 4 from three-point range.
Dean and Millsap combined for 50 of Tech?s 67 points. Millsap is averaging 27 points per game and 15.3 rebounds a game for the Bulldogs through three games.
UAB (1-0) opened the season on Saturday with a big win over Virginia Commonwealth by a 79-55 score.
The Blazers are coached by former Arkansas assistant Frank Anderson and are much like Auburn with a lot of quickness but have more size than the Tigers. UAB forced 25 turnovers on 15 steals in its opener while holding VCU to 25% shooting.
The Bulldogs will try to play a slower temp than UAB desires and Tech will need more offensive production out its guards to be able come away on the good side of the scoreboard on Monday.
UAB advanced to the Sweet Sixteen a year ago, defeating Kentucky during the NCAA Tournament before falling to Kansas and return 10 players on that team.
Tech and UAB faced each other last December with the Blazers claiming a 79-67 victory in that game.
Millsap led Tech in that game with 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Bulldogs shot only 39% for the game.
After Monday contest, Louisiana Tech will open its home schedule next Saturday at 4 p.m. against Texas-San Antonio in Thomas Assembly Center.
