Boxscore Louisiana Tech couldn't stop Nevada or Nick Fazekas Thursday as the Wolf Pack took a 64-56 win over the Bulldogs at the Thomas Assembly Center.
Tech fell to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in the Western Athletic Conference while Nevada moved to 10-3 and 3-0.
Fazekas poured in 21 points and pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds, including 15 on the defensive boards, to pace the Wolf Pack.
"I told our team that this game came down to two simple things," Tech coach Keith Richard said. "That was not enough offensive from us and too much Nick Fazekas for Nevada."
Fazekas had seven points and 10 rebounds in the first half, but the sophomore forward turned up his offense in the second half and hit on 7-of-13 shots from the floor in the contest and 7-of-8 free throws.
"We let him catch the ball too much in the second half," Richard said. "We limited his touches in the first half with our guys paying attention to him and helping. That was our game plan.
"Fatigue started setting in the second half and we started leaving him open. The ball in his hands is a bad omen for us."
While Fazekas was left open some in the second half, he also scored when the pressure was on.
"Some of those shots he made were tough shots," Richard said. "But he made some great 1-on-1 plays and would spin open and make the shot."
Nevada led 26-21 at the half, but Tech cut the Wolf Pack lead to two at 42-40 on a
Wayne Powell 3-pointer. But that's as close as the Bulldogs would get as Nevada would build as much as a 14-point advantage on the way to the eight-point victory.
Powell led Tech with 15 points and added six rebounds while
Paul Millsap chipped in with 13 points and nine boards.
Corey Dean rounded out Tech's top scorers with 11 points.
Ramon Sessions was Nevada's only other double-digit scorer with 12 points.
Nevada hit on 43.1 percent (22-51) of its shots from the floor while holding Tech to a 34.5 shooting percentage (20-58). The Wolf Pack also won the battle on the boards and outrebounded the Bulldogs 40-36.
Tech returns to WAC action on Saturday as the Bulldogs play host to Fresno State, which lost 74-63 Thursday at SMU, at 6:30 p.m. in the Thomas Assembly Center.
