Bulldogs Demolish TougalooBoxscore Louisiana Tech used a smoothering man-to-man defense and a Thomas Assembly Center record 72 rebounds to pummel Tougaloo 92-58 in part of a double-header with the Lady Techsters tonight.
The Bulldogs (7-5) jumped out to a 14-2 lead over Tougaloo (2-8) to start the game with junior forward
Paul Millsap scoring 11 of Tech's first 14 points.
Millsap had 20 points and six rebounds in the first nine minutes of the game, until Tech head coach Keith Richard decided to rest the Grambling, La., native with Tech holding a 27-7 lead. Millsap led Tech with 25 points and eight rebounds in only 17 minutes of action.
The eight rebounds broke a streak of 14 consecutive games in which Millsap had 10-plus rebounds and a streak of nine-straight double-doubles. However, all fifteen Tech players had at least one rebound, and twelve players reached the scoring column, including freshmen
Mohammed Ibrahim and
Matt Alexander.
Ibrahim had six points, four rebounds and two assists for the first points of his career, and Alexander finished with two points and two rebounds.
Senior point guard
Daevon Haskins, who entered the contest ranked 13th in the NCAA with 6.2 assists per game, registered five assists, six rebounds and three steals in only 14 minutes of play.
Senior
Corey Dean continued his march to becoming Tech's 32nd player in school history to record 1,000 career points. Dean had 11 points and needs 122 in Tech's remaining 18 regular season games to reach the milestone.
The Bulldogs out-scored Tougaloo 36-6 in the paint and 26-5 on second chance points, but perhaps the most astounding statistic was Tech's 53 bench points compared to Tougaloo's two.
Tech's next contest will be at No. 23 nationally-ranked Wisconsin on Dec. 28 at 7:05 p.m.
