Millsap Hauls In First Team All-WAC Honors

RUSTON, La. -- Louisiana Tech?s Paul Millsap was selected to the All-Western Athletic Conference team as announced Sunday by the league office.

The All-WAC team was selected by the conference?s 10 coaches. Millsap was the WAC Freshman of the Year and a second-team pick last year.

Nevada sophomore forward Nick Fazekas was named the WAC Player of the Year and was joined on the first-team Millsap, Rice?s Michael Harris and UTEP?s Omar Thomas and Filiberto Rivera. Harris and Rivera were first-team selections last season while Millsap and Thomas were voted to the second team.

Millsap leads the nation with 12.3 rebounds per game and in double-doubles with .75 per game (21 in 28 games). He also ranks No. 3 in WAC scoring with 20.3 points per game and No. 2 in conference blocked shots with 1.96 per contest. This season Millsap was twice named WAC Player of the Week and was also a three-time Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week.

Earning second team All-WAC accolades were SMU?s Bryan Hopkins, Nevada?s Kevinn Pinkney, Rice?s Jason McKrieth, San Jose State?s Marquin Chandler and Fresno State?s Mustafa Al-Sayyad.

Nevada guard Ramon Session was named the WAC Freshman of the Year while his head coach, Mark Fox, was named the Don Haskins WAC Coach of the Year after leading the Wolf Pack to the WAC?s regular-season title in his first year heading up the program.

The 2005 WAC Men?s Basketball Tournament will begin Tuesday at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nevada. Louisiana Tech will face Fresno State in quarterfinal play at 8 p.m. on Thursday.
