Millsap Named All-Louisiana For Second Straight Season
RUSTON, La. ? Louisiana Tech sophomore forward Paul Millsap has been named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association?s All-Louisiana Collegiate Basketball Team for the second straight season.
Millsap (6-8, 243), who this season became only the fifth player to ever win back-to-back NCAA rebounding championships and the only one to do so as a freshman and sophomore, led Louisiana Tech with 20.4 points per game along with his 12.4 rebounds per contest. No NCAA player has ever won three consecutive rebounding titles.
The Grambling, La., native shot 58 percent from the floor and added 1.9 blocks per game and had earlier been picked as a first team All-Western Athletic Conference selection and was also named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches' and the United State's Basketball Writers All-District 8 teams as well Basketball Times? All-South Team.
All five 2005 All-Louisiana first team selections are Louisiana natives, with LSU sophomore forward Brandon Bass earning Player of the Year accolades after being named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year. The 6-8 Baton Rouge product was also the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year while averaging 17.3 points and 9.1 rebounds. He sank 57 percent of his shots, 46 percent of his 3-pointers, 78 percent on free throws and averaged 1.6 blocks per game.
Joining Millsap and Bass on the All-Louisiana first team were Ricky Woods of Southeastern Louisiana, Bo McCalebb of New Orleans and Glen Davis of LSU.
Davis, the SEC Freshman of the Year, was also selected as the Louisiana Freshman of the Year.
Woods tied with Tiras Wade of Louisiana-Lafayette as the Louisiana Newcomer of the Year.
Southeastern Louisiana?s Billy Kennedy outpolled Northwestern's Mike McConathy for Louisiana Coach of the Year in the only close election for individual honors. Kennedy took a team picked fifth in the preseason SLC coaches' poll to a share of the regular-season league title and an all-time SLU best 24 wins. His Lions allowed only 55.8 points per game, the best defensive figure in Southland Conference history.
Joining Wade on the All-Louisiana second team were LSU-Shreveport?s Fredericko Payne, SLU?s Nate Lofton, ULL?s Brian Hamilton and Centenary?s Chad Maclies.
Earning third team honors were Northwestern State?s Jermaine Wallace, Grambling State?s Brion Rush, Southern?s Christopher Alexander, Southern-New Orleans? Lamar Clark and Tulane?s Quincy Davis.
Players earning All-Louisiana honorable mention were Antonio Hudson, Darrell Mitchell and Tack Minor of LSU; Derrick Rogers and Derrick Hill of LSU-Shreveport; Orien Greene and Dwayne Mitchell of Louisiana-Lafayette; Peter Cipriano of Southern; Edward Garriet, of McNeese State ; Casey Meador of Louisiana College and Johnathan Patton of SLU.
