Louisiana Tech added two new assistant coaches to the Bulldogs Basketball program as head coach Keith Richard officially announced Friday the hiring of Kevin Johnson and Lou Gudino.

Both are coming off head coaching stints as Johnson headed up the Centenary College program in Shreveport while Gudino guided the Frank Phillips College team.

Johnson spent the last six years as head coach at Centenary and compiled a 65-100 overall record at the school. Johnson had been a two-year assistant under previous Centenary head coach Billy Kennedy and prior to that served for one season as an assistant at Texas-Pan American, where he was a shooting guard for coach Lon Kruger and still ranks 13th on the UTPA all-time scoring list.

The Morgan City, La., native served two stints playing overseas in England and also served as assistant coach at Northwestern State University and Bryan High School in Texas.

"This is a tremendous opportunity to work for Louisiana Tech with its tradition and history and the success Keith Richard has had," Johnson said.

Gudino spent the past two seasons as head coach at Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas, and compiled a 42-18 overall record.

Last season the native of Clinton, Ind., guided Frank Phillips College to its first Western Juniover College Athletic Conference championship with a record of 26-4 and a No. 16 national ranking, which was the highest in school history.

For his efforts Gudino was named the WJCAC Coach of the Year.

"This is a great opportunity for me," Gudino said. "I'm fortunate to have an opportunity to learn more about the game and continue my basketball knowledge."

Richard feels the addition of Johnson and Gudino, combined with the return of second-year assistant Ryan Cross, gives the Bulldogs a solid staff to work with.

"The addition of these two guys along with Ryan Cross returning in terms of recruiting experience, has a chance to be the strongest staff I've ever had here," Richard, who is heading into his eighth season as head coach of the Bulldogs, said. "I have three guys on my staff who have been head coaches. There's a broad band of positives that come from those three guys recruiting- and coaching-wise."
