CLEMSON, S.C. ? Three Clemson running backs eclipsed the 100 yard plateau to lead the 18th ranked Tigers to a 51-0 win over Louisiana Tech Saturday evening at Memorial Stadium.

James Davis rushed for 143 yards and two scores, including a 64-yard burst that gave the Tigers an early 7-0 lead, while teammates CJ Spiller (127 yards, one TD) and Demerick Chancellor (113 yards) also contributed heavily to Clemson totaling 393 yards on the ground.

?Clemson is a great team,? said Tech head coach Jack Bicknell said. ?I hate comparing teams but they are the best we?ve played this year by far. They are unbelievably quick and very physical.?

Leading 10-0 through one quarter, Clemson added 21 points in the second stanza thanks to a high-light reel 34-yard diving touchdown catch by Chansi Stuckey and a 20-yard scamper by Spiller to close out the first half scoring.

Louisiana Tech had an opportunity to score late in the first half but a Bulldog drive stalled inside the Clemson five-yard line as the Tigers led 31-0 entering the lockerroom.

Clemson added two quick touchdowns in the third quarter as Jacoby Ford opened the half with a 94-yard kickoff return for a score, the first allowed by a Tech team since Alabama?s Shaun Alexander in 1999.

Tiger linebacker Nick Watkins then returned an interception 26 yards for a score on the Bulldogs opening possession of the second half.

Tech quarterback Zac Champion passed for 194 yards while senior Eric Newman set career-highs with nine receptions for 101 yards. Freshman tailback Daniel Porter led Tech on the ground with 58 yards on 10 carries.

Linebacker Brannon Jackson set a career-high with nine tackles to lead all Bulldogs.

Tech opens Western Athletic Conference play at Boise State Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. CST.
