LAS CRUCES, N.M. ? Chase Holbrook passed for 514 yards and three touchdowns to lead New Mexico State to a 50-23 win over Louisiana Tech before 13,568 fans at Aggie Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The game was close at the half with New Mexico State leading 14-7 before the Aggies outscored Tech 36-16 in the final two quarters of action.
?I thought we were right there at the half,? said Tech head coach Jack Bicknell. ?However, we didn?t come out and play on either side of the football in the second half. I can honestly say for the first time this year that I don?t think we competed in the second half. That?s the most disappointing thing I can say.?
Turnovers by Tech keyed the Aggies second half dominance as three interceptions and one fumble led to 24 New Mexico State points.
Holbrook, who set the NCAA Division I sophomore passing yards record for the season with 4,619 yards, three touchdown passes of 63, 15 and 6 while not registering an interception in the game.
Tech running back Patrick Jackson rushed for a career-high 136 yards and one score on the day while red-shirt freshman quarterback Michael Mosley came on in the final quarter to complete 10-of-11 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns.
Jackson gave Tech an early 7-0 lead on a three-yard touchdown run before New Mexico State scored 37 unanswered points. The Bulldogs broke that string with a blocked extra point return by Anthony Moss to make the score 37-9.
After two more New Mexico State scores, Mosley hit Bryan Carroll for a 38-yard score before hitting Dennis Morris for a 10-yard touchdown in the final two minutes.
